Spokane Ponderosa is seeking an individual with passionate interest in the native evergreen urban forest of Spokane County to serve as Executive Director. This individual is responsible for the overall planning and operations in accordance with the mission and goals of the organization.


The position provides leadership, direction and support to the Board of Directors in developing goals, attaining/allocating resources, and establishing policies. Successful candidate will be capable of making presentations to governmental entities, developers and other groups. Organize meetings and encourage replanting. 


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Guides, supports and serves the Board of Directors in establishing goals and developing policies, procedures, budgets and programs that fulfill the mission.
  • Provides leadership to staff through the establishment of goals, objectives, and procedures; develops administrative and operational standards by which goals will be met.
  • Assures management and attainment of resources necessary to ensure the financial operations are conducted in accordance with applicable laws.
  • Monitors and approves the organization's program services and assures achievement of its mission and goals.
  • Generates revenue through grants, donations and other means to sustain the organization.
  • Supports fundraising activities.
  • Directs public relations activities and events.
  • Provides professional leadership to the Board of Directors to assure development of an effective and motivated board, including identification, recruitment, training and involvement of members in meeting the goals of the organization.
  • Develops collaborative relationships, promotes positive image, and effectively communicates with potential/current donors, external community groups and the community.



  • A college degree or equivalent work experience is required.
  • Administrative expertise and proven success with fundraising are strongly desired.
  • The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills (both oral and written) and the ability to speak effectively and persuasively to groups and individuals.
  • Leadership skills, including negotiation, problem solving, supervision, decision making, and delegation are crucial in this role.
  • A demonstrated ability to oversee a budget and promote effective working relationships with the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers and funding sources is strongly desired.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of non-profit organizations and resource development activities are a plus.
